"Outwitting
Dogs is basic enough
to be useful to the
novice dog owner,
but smart enough to
engage even
the savviest dog
lover. Read it, and
you'll more than
likely recommend
it to your
friends."

Hi! Thanks for
stopping by!
NEW! I'm blogging :-) Click here to
see!
And if you like to read chick lit, there's this
. . . Paige's blog is written by a
fictional character -- an animal control officer who posts about
life and love. (You knew there would have to be a dog tie-in, didn't
you???) Free, online chick lit!!!
Isn't the Internet grand?
101 Dog Training Tips. Yes, I'm now
writing another dog training book (thank you Lyons
Press for giving me the opportunity!) This will be a great
little resource -- lots of quick ideas for solving training
challenges. It's coming out in the spring!
And of course, there's . . .
Outwitting
Dogs
I was born a "dog person."
(Maybe you were, too?) But when I adopted my first "dog of my own,"
a mixed-breed named Brett, I knew pitifully little about training! I
can still remember how tense and frustrated I sometimes felt about
her behaviors. They seemed so unsolvable. I loved that dog so! But
how hard she was to live with, sometimes!
Fast forward a number of years
(never mind how many!) and how different things are! Part of this is
due to the Internet. What a wonderful thing to be able to connect
with online communities of people who will help you with your dog
(see the links on the sidebar to the left for my favorites).
Another change is that the
dog trainers out there have become so good! They know things about
dogs, today, that were only dreamt of when my Brett was a puppy.
In fact, it's a great time
to be a dog lover! There are resources available today that can help
you and your dog get along wonderfully. You get the behaviors you
want. Your dog gets the security, reinforcement and support dogs
want.
And then, of course,
there are the books! Outwitting Dogs is
a book I wrote with a wonderful trainer in Washington State, Terry
Ryan. It captures the basics of what Terry has learned in over 25
years of using gentle methods to train dogs--plus a little bit of
stuff I've managed to sort out as well :-)
So I think it's wonderful
that you're interested in it!
Being with your dog is
supposed to be fun. It's supposed to be nurturing and
supportive.
Outwitting Dogs can
be a part of your journey to that ideal relationship with the
dog--or dogs--in your life.
Blessings,
Kirsten Mortensen
P.S. Be sure to send
me your contact
info if you'd like to stay in touch! I
have some exciting things planned--including a free e-book that will
enrich you and your dog's training experience!
